Marriage counseling, also known as “couples counseling”, is a type of therapy focused on improving the marital or couples relationship by resolving conflict, improving communication, and provide a more peaceful, loving relationship. A therapist may be helpful during times of crisis, as well as during times when your relationship feels like it’s just not where it should be. Both individuals will gain insight into their own lives, as well as the role of their relationship. Through marriage counseling, you can make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding and strengthening your relationship or going your separate ways.
Family counseling, also known as "family therapy, works to improve the family unit. Challenges like divorce, death, disability, or major life transitions can put a strain on the family and they seek the guidance of a therapist to help them cope. Although every family faces conflict, a family may reach a point of conflict or stress that leaves its members unsure of how to communicate in a healthy manner. Family therapy can help with problem-solving, communication, and coping to make the family more cohesive.
Trauma Focused Counseling
Experiencing trauma is difficult; various reasons create long-lasting effects. Talking with your physician to rule out physical causes and with a mental health professional to address the effects of trauma will be helpful to your healing. Trauma is often treated with medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two. At Family Support Services, help trauma survivors by offering a safe house and resources for domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. We assist veterans and their family members through our services at the Veterans Resource Center
Counseling For Children
Child counseling is a type of therapy that focuses on young children, teens, and adolescents with one or more mental illnesses. It also provides aid to youths, who have experienced trauma, and/or who are experiencing a dysfunctional or stressful home environment.
