Barbara is a lifelong Amarillo resident who attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. Barbara holds a Commercial Airman’s Certificate with an Instrument Rating. Former stay-at-home mother. Mother of two (2); grandmother of four (4).
Barbara has served on multiple boards in the community including; Lone Star Ballet, Lee Bivins Elementary School PTA, Amarillo Education Foundation, Volunteers in Public Schools, Desk and Derrickof Amarillo, The Amarillo Chapter of the 99’s, and Citizens for Kids. She was named a “Good Neighbor” by the Amarillo Globe-News twice and was also named “Volunteer of the Year” by Amarillo Independent School District. Barbara co-chaired a successful school bond for the AISD in 1996 for $42.2 million which air-conditioned our public schools. Ms. Hughes flew in the final Powder Puff Derby from Sacramento, California to Wilmington, Delaware.
